Frequently Asked Questions
Who is this program for?
This is for 10th through 12th grade students ---both first-time and repeating test takers--- in Montgomery and surrounding areas wanting to increase their potential for making their desired score through rigorous content training. In addition, this program helps students gain valuable knowledge of the career and college research process.
Who is teaching this program?
The developers of Ace the ACT are Derek and Ashley Lovett. They are secondary education teachers and have been conducting ACT prep for well over five years. Presumably they will be the primary instructors; however, additional qualified instructors may be utilized.
Where and when will Ace the ACT be held?
We are currently locating a venue that we think would best accommodate students from Montgomery and surrounding areas. In general the sessions will be approximately one-hour long starting sometime after 4 o'clock. Dates and times will be finalized late Fall.
Can I access the live sessions?
Yes, parents and guardians who sign students up are allowed to view our live sessions online. A unique Zoom Link will be sent to the email you share with us upon registration. This link will be shared with you prior to the first session and can be used to access the sessions over the 8-week duration.
What materials are required?
Students only need to have access to a device, preferably a laptop or a desktop in which they can clearly see the ACT live instruction. In addition, students will want to keep a notebook to take notes during the live sessions and work out practice problems on their own.
How do I access the Google Classroom?
A link to the Google Classroom will be shared with you via the email you share with us upon registration. Students should use their own personal email to join the classroom. After this, we will send you an invitation to add yourself as a "parent/guardian" in the classroom so that you can monitor assignments.
How can I monitor what my child is doing?
After your child joins the Google Classroom, we will send you an invitation to add yourself as a "parent/guardian" in the classroom. Since some of the assignments will only be available while we are on our live sessions, you will be able to monitor how often your child is tuning in and participating.
What happens if a student misses a session?
There is no penalty for missing a session. In addition, live sessions will be recorded and uploaded to the Google Classroom.
Can I get a donation back if I cancel?
There is no official fee for this course. Furthermore, all donations are nonrefundable unless we cancel the course. In the case that it is cancelled, your donation will be refunded within 72 hours of notice of cancellation.
Support Student Stipends!
We know that many disadvantaged students don’t take advantage of resources like this. For most of them it is not because they don’t have the desire or work ethic. Instead it is because they don’t understand the relevance and therefore don't understand how it helps them. In order to help students engage and complete the course we want to offer them stipends. But we need your help to do this.
HERE'S HOW IT WORKS!
Ace the ACT is an 8-week course with 2 class sessions per week. If students attend at least 14 of the 16 class sessions, complete all of the Google Classroom modules by the specified deadlines, and sign up for the exam date specified for the particular course they will receive stipends (based on available funds.).
We believe that students tend to be more motivated when they can correlate their hard work to tangible rewards. Therefore, as funds allow, we would also like to reward students based on their ACT performance.
The following are the scoring brackets we will use. For those who have taken the test prior, their new score must be in a higher bracket than their previous score. Reward amounts will be based on funds received.
Bronze: 18 to 20
Silver: 21 to 23
Gold : 24 to 26
Platinum: 27 to 29
Diamond: 30 and up
