It all started on the last day of school when a student made the statement, "Why would I listen to you when you're just a teacher?"  Founder Derek Lovett had known for a while that students needed more relevance in the classroom. but this was an insight into an even deeper issue than he had realized: these students needed to develop a broader perspective of life that transcended their current reality and touched the core of their true desires.  He realized that only when students could see how school related to their reality of success would they truly be motivated to attend and, subsequently, be appreciative of the opportunity.  Thus, the concept for Put Student Motivation First was born.

 

In January 2019, with the help of his mother (an educator of 35 years) and his wife (a high school English teacher), Derek Lovett launched Put Student Motivation First.
